Australian cockroaches are big, reddish brown cockroaches with bright yellow edges on the wings and a yellow band around the shield behind the head. They are common in leafy Brisbane suburbs, where they live outside in mulch, leaf litter, tree bark, woodpiles and garden beds. On warm, humid nights they wander into homes through open doors, gaps under doors and weep holes, and some can fly short distances toward lights.
Because these cockroaches mostly breed outdoors, the treatment focuses on the outside of the home as well as the rooms where you see them. When you call, we ask about your garden, how your home is built and where the cockroaches are turning up. We give you an upfront price and book an independent pest crew working nearby.
- An outdoor spray around doors, windows, weep holes and vents
- Treatment of garden beds and mulch close to the walls
- Subfloor treatment for raised homes where access allows
- Cockroach baiting indoors where they are feeding
- Advice on mulch, woodpiles and plants against the house
You can help by pulling mulch back from the walls, storing firewood away from the house, trimming shrubs so they do not touch the walls and fitting door seals. Checking pot plants and outdoor furniture before bringing them inside is worth doing too. Switching off outdoor lights when not needed also helps, as lights draw in the insects and the cockroaches that feed near them.
Australian cockroaches are most active from late spring through the humid summer months. If big yellow-edged cockroaches are wandering into your Brisbane home, call 07 3543 7767 and we will book a local crew at a time that suits you.
